Mary Louise Troe, 93, of Towamencin, died at Docks Woods Community on February 8, 2017. She was the loving wife of the late James L. Troe for 62 years. Born August 20, 1923 in Lowden, Iowa to the late Harry and Louise Sophia (Rix) Puck, she studied nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital, Davenport, Iowa, obtaining her RN degree in 1946. While working at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago she met James Troe, also of Iowa, whom she married in 1948. In the early years of their marriage, Mary and Jim and their family lived throughout the U.S. including three years on Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, with New Jersey as their home base. Mary loved to learn and create. She enjoyed travel throughout the U.S. and around the world. She loved to read. She expressed her creativity in gardening, sewing, cooking and decorating. Her daughter Debra fondly remembers many hours spent sewing together. With the rest of her family, she enjoyed the natural world, hiking and camping. In her 50s she returned to nursing, working in an allergist’s office, building relationships with patients she saw weekly. Mary moved, along with her husband, to the Dock Woods Community in 1994. She continued to travel and develop her culinary interests. During the summer of 2012 she travelled back to Iowa, visiting the towns where she was born and grew up and also with her cousins. She is survived by two sons, John and wife, Laura, of Colorado and David of Massachusetts; a daughter Debra Franke and husband, John, of Hatfield, and three grandchildren, Ryan John Troe, Jessica Pauline Troe, and John James Franke. She will be missed by many friends, including Suzanne Singh, who provided companionship and care for the last nine and a half years. Mary will be interred at the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa alongside her husband.
