Mary T. Souther
Mary T. Souther, 92, of Farmington, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, in Farmington. She was born Dec. 5, 1923, to Ernest and Elizabeth Toma in Memphis, Tenn. Bill Souther met Mary Toma during his military service in her hometown of Memphis, Tenn. Following his discharge from the Army, Bill and Mary moved to Phoenix. In 1956, they moved to Farmington and founded San Juan Spring Company and raised their two sons, William Jr. and Tappan. Mary was an accomplished musician – playing the piano, cello, and guitar. She enjoyed the opera and the performing arts and was blessed by the many friendships with members of the musical community. Mary had a great sense of adventure and desire to learn. She enjoyed sailing, yoga, and visits to many parts of the world. Mary's legacy to her family is one of deep faith and love. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Souther. She is survived by two sons, William Souther Jr. (Pam) and Tappan (Betti) Souther; six grandchildren, Tappan Souther II (Amy), Chandler (Stephanie) Souther, Kim (Nolan) Tornquist, Kristopher (Samantha) Souther, Eric (Michele) Souther; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren Souther, Brooksley Souther, Alexandra Souther, Tappan Souther, Dylan Tornquist and Carissa Tornquist. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Hodges. There will be a private service. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Bridge and Life Care Center.
