Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Mary Anne Schwartz will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus in Lufkin, with Father Marcos Ramos, OP, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Monastery Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening in the Monastery. Sister Mary Anne of Jesus, OP, (Anna Maria Schwartz), 89, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus in Lufkin, Texas. Sister Mary Anne was born on May 23, 1927 in Waldfischbach, Germany, the daughter of the late Frank Schwartz and Josephine Magel. Sister's family moved to the United States when she was one year old, and settled in Detroit, Michigan, where her father was employed as a factory worker. Sister attended schools in Detroit. Sister Mary Anne entered the Dominican Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament in Detroit on December 28, 1944. On July 26, 1945, Sister, along with five other Nuns from the Detroit Monastery, came to Lufkin to found the Monastery of the Infant Jesus. Sister Mary Anne made her first Profession on November 9, 1946 and her Solemn Profession in 1952. Sister served the community as Directress of Novices, Chantress, making liturgical vestments and sewing habits for the Sisters. Sister was a talented artist and enjoyed various forms of crafts. Sister is survived by her nephew, Matthew Schwartz and his wife Chantel. Sister was preceded in death by her father, Joseph; her mother, Josephine; her brothers, Berthold and Karl Eugene; and her sister, Alvina. Services are in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
