MITCHELL Mary Hetherington Mitchell of Half Moon Bay, California,passed away September 27, 2016. A landscape architect known for a subtle, minimalist style and use of native plants. Born and brought up in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mary earned a BS degree in 1980 from the School of Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Mary settled in San Francisco in the early 1980's. She worked with the Callander and Assoicates landscaping firm and then opened her own landscaping business. In 1998, Mary married Douglas Brockmeyer of Half Moon Bay, with whom she had a daughter, Gabrielle, in 2001. She immersed herself in parenting and the Waldorf method of education, and served as an assistant teacher of handwork. Mary served on the executive board of the Half Moon Bay Open Space Trust and was a volunteer for the Coastside Land Trust, doing survey work and eradicating non-native plants. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a brother, John L. Mitchell; three sisters, Anne Mitchell Pezzano (William), Amy Mitchell Cherry (Jason) and Sarah Mitchell Buller; an uncle and aunt, Graydon and Sherri DeCamp and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John M. Mitchell (Anne DeCamp) of Cincinnati, Ohio. A memorial service was held in Mill Valley, California. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Coastside Land Trust in Half Moon Bay or Mission Hospice of San Mateo.
