Mary M. Larkin
Mary Margaret (Heney) Larkin, 96, of Bridgewater died at Massachusetts General Hospital on January 11, 2017. Mary was born in Brockton to John and Nellie (Byrnes) Heney on May 1, 1920. She was the loving wife of the late Robert R. Larkin. Mary was raised and educated in Brockton and was a graduate of Brockton High School (where she met her future husband at age 14 while standing in line for the classroom pencil sharpener). She graduated in 1942 from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and had a long career as a Registered Nurse. Mary was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where she was a nurse and attained the rank of Lieutenant during World War II. Gifted with an extraordinary sense of compassion, she devoted her career to psychiatric nursing, caring for society's most vulnerable. She was a registered nurse for the Brockton Veterans Hospital and an active member of the MGH Alumnae Association. Mary was known for her graciousness and adored her family more than anything. She was proud of her Irish Catholic heritage, curious about other people's lives and cultures, and open to all viewpoints and perspectives. She had a strong sense of adventure and loved to exercise her keen mind talking politics and medicine. Mary will forever be remembered and admired for her inner strength, resilience and unique gift of healing. Mary was loving mother to Nancy Henderson of Bridgewater, Valerie Larkin and partner David Benzaquin of Kingston, Alison Larkin-Koushki and her late husband Parviz Koushki of Kuwait, and Mary Larkin and husband Peter Golemme of Hanover. She is predeceased by her parents and her late siblings, John Heney, Robert Heney, Katherine Kianski, Eleanor Doody, Elizabeth Danahy and Jospeh Heney. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Amie, Michael, Rachel, Alexa, John, Katrin, Jasmine and Amir, her great-grandchildren, Luke, Skye and Dakota, and her many cherished nieces and nephews. The family welcomed friends and loved ones to celebrate Marys life on Sunday January 15, 2017 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Magoun - Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland, MA 02370.
