Mary Dempsey Kerce Madison, MS Mary Dempsey Kerce, 85, of Madison, MS, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 14, 2016, at her home in Madison, MS where she was surrounded by the comfort of her family. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 10-11 a.m. at Colonial Heights Baptist Church located at 444 North Park Dr. in Ridgeland, MS. Funeral Service will begin immediately following visitation at 11:00 a.m. Mary Frances Dempsey was born on February 27, 1931 to the late Paul J. & Susie W. Dempsey in Rome, Georgia. Mary graduated from Model High School in Rome, GA in 1948. After graduation, she began working as an administrative assistant. She met the love of her life, Howard E. Kerce, while attending Friendship Baptist Church in Rome, GA. After a short courtship of only a year, they were married on November 24, 1954, and her life's mission and calling of being a devoted and loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother was set into motion. Mary lived her life as an example we should all hope to follow by showing love and kindness to everyone she met.Mary had a very successful and rewarding career in retail sales at several different locations in the Jackson, MS area. She truly loved meeting people and building lasting relationships, and continued this career for 20 years.When grandchildren came into the scene, Mary gave up this career to again serve her first love and priority, her family. She faithfully spent the remainder of her life living out this role by loving and nurturing her family, particularly her grandchildren. She was always present at sporting events, awards ceremonies, and graduations in support of her 4 grandchildren whom she treasured and loved dearly.When Mary was diagnosed with dementia in the later stages of her life, her husband selflessly devoted all of his love and energy caring for her. and making certain she could live out the remaining years of her life in dignity and respect. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Paul J. & Susie W. Dempsey, and one brother, Dallas W. Dempsey. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 62 wonderful years, Howard E. Kerce of Madison, MS. One daughter, Susan Kerce Murphy and her husband Walter of Jackson, MS. One son, Howard Michael Kerce and his wife Susie of Jackson, MS., one sister-in-law Sarah K. Howe of Rome, GA., four grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Murphy, Mary Katherine Hood and her husband Seth Hood, Ellen Ross Kerce and John Wesley Kerce II. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the many caregivers that so lovingly cared for Mary in the later years of her life Pastor. Steven Anthony will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers the family wishes all donations be made to UMMC Mind Center & Magnolia Speech School as well as any charity of your choosing.
