Mary E. Kelly
Kelly , Mary E. Mary Elizabeth Kelly (MK1) passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2016. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones as she accepted her invitation to her much awaited family reunion where there will also be some tails wagging upon her arrival. She was predeceased by her parents John and Margaret Madden; husband of 54 years Thomas Kelly; her beloved siblings John and Robert Madden; sister in-law Patricia Madden; as well as her dear canine companion Babe. She is survived by her loving children, daughter Sharon (Wayne) Johnson and son Michael Kelly (Melinda Lawrence); four devoted grandchildren Katie (LaRue) Simmons, Carly Johnson, Shannon (Michael) Liberty and Delaney Johnson; great-grandchildren Ava and Aliyah; sister in-law Irene (John) Madden and numerous nieces and nephews who cared for her deeply. Mary was an avid reader and loved to knit as she sat in front of her fireplace. Late in life she became a faithful fan of Syracuse University Basketball, and the NY Mets. Words alone cannot describe the exemplary life Mary lived, she was gracious and grateful for everything in her life and if she was your friend, you had a friend for life. She faced adversity with a strength and bravery beyond which her frail exterior seemed capable. A wry sardonic wit served her well throughout life and was with her to the very end, as she was still able to send off a zinger or two at bedside visitors. It is that spirit which is her legacy. The family would like to thank Mary's caregivers Suzanne and Lisa for their constant aide, and to Mary's niece Karen for her vigilant care and compassion. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Ramanujan and his staff especially Nancy Evans for their extraordinary care. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the THOMAS J. SHEA Funeral Home Inc. 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY 13904 from 2 until 5pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul's Church in Binghamton on Monday at 12:30pm. Burial will follow in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
