In memory of
Mary Ruth (Moore) Gould
Mary Ruth Moore Gould Brentwood, TN After a long and rich life, Mary Ruth Moore Gould passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her half-brothers and their wives Martin Luther Moore (Margaret) and William Grayson Plumb Moore (Charlotte Tobin); her parents Pearl Josephine Grayson Plumb Moore and Martin Tolman Moore. She is survived by her brother Robert Lee Moore (Elaine), retired pipe organist, of Edmond, OK and brother William's widow Sally Richardson Moore of Lakeland, FL. By way of her two children Shelley Deane Gould Alexander (William Polk Alexander III) of Brentwood and Steven Bradley Gould (Kelly Garner) of Tampa, FL; her four grandchildren William Polk Alexander IV (Laura Eileen Gasslein Alexander) of Nashville, Victoria Gould Alexander Johnson (Cory Moraine Johnson) of Estes Park, CO, Stephen Purdue Gould (Jennifer Kay Becker) of Port St. Lucie, FL and Amanda Gould of Tampa, FL.; and her three great grandchildren Mira Skye Alexander, William Polk Alexander V and Bohemia James Gould, Ruth leaves the world behind her better than she found it. We called her Mother, Miss Ruth, Grandma and Gigi. Ruth was born in Farmington, MO on August 29, 1922. There she got the depression era determination that defined her life and earned her FHS salutatorian slot. At Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO, she met and later married Purdue Leighton Gould (deceased 2011) who became a medical doctor. Ruth worked as executive secretary for the manager of Pan American Airways in Tokyo, Japan while Purdue served as a Hawkeye-like surgeon in the 8055th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital ("MASH") in Korea. Ruth faithfully ran her family and made wonderful memories for them as Purdue became the first neurosurgeon in Lakeland, FL before neurosurgery practices in West Palm Beach, FL and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She traveled the world, served as garden club president, volunteered at school and other libraries, boated, and was active in the Palm Beach Power Squadron. Ruth resided in Brentwood, TN since 2011 and attended Nashville's First Presbyterian Church. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Brentwood Library, Nashville Symphony or the charity of your choice.
