Mary Patricia Gottlieb June 5, 1936 - December 20, 2016 Keizer - Mary Patricia (O'Malley) Gottlieb passed away on Tuesday, December 20th; she was 80 years old. She was born in Junction City, Kansas to George Francis and Forrest Vernelle (King) O'Malley on June 5th, 1936. After graduating from St. Xavier Catholic High School, she attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas where she studied biology. In 1955, while working behind the soda counter of the Rexall Drug store, she met Cpl. William (Bill) Jack Gottlieb. They married in February of 1956 and moved to Hillsboro, Oregon, ultimately settling in Keizer where Mary lived in the same house for the last 45 years. In 1986, Mary started working as an Administrative Assistant for the Oregon Department of Revenue, until her retirement in June, 2002. Mary was quite the movie buff. Never one to miss the Academy Awards ceremony, she was so skilled at selecting the winners; she won the Statesman Journal's You Pick the Oscars contest multiple times. She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling and was an avid bridge player. She had a wonderful sense of humor, quick wit and a memorable laugh. Painting was also a favorite activity. Mary filled her home with a variety of landscapes from ocean beaches to picturesque mountain scenes. Throughout her life, her great loves were her children, grandchildren and her four legged companions. Mary truly dedicated her life to their happiness and joy. She was a devoted and generous mother, grandmother and friend. Her daughters were blessed to have such a wonderful role model and they will miss her greatly. Mary is survived by her daughters, Lynn Gottlieb of Keizer, Janell (Mark) Bywater of Tualatin, and Patti Maher of Irving, TX; her grandchildren, Victor (Amber), Amy, Adam, and Rebeccah Penwell; Rachel (Collin Beeson), Amelia and Mary Grace Bywater and six great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service to be held at 2:00pm, Friday, February 3rd, 2017 at St. Edward Catholic Church at 5303 River Road N, Keizer, Oregon 97303. A private family burial was held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Patrick Cemetery in Ogden, Kansas.
