CHRISTIAN, Mary Mary "Frances" Hooks Christian 94, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 12, 2016, at Great Oaks Senior Living in Monroe, Georgia after a long illness with Alzheimer's. She was born May 23, 1922, in Glascock County in Gibson, Georgia, to Alvah and Dahlia (Smith) Hooks. In 1943, Frances began her 30-year career with the U.S. Federal Government, in Atlanta, Georgia. Frances was primarily an examiner and auditor working with the FAA, IRS, VA, and Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service before retiring from the U.S. Forest Service. She attended Georgia State University's Business College. In 1950, Frances married Carl Clifton Christian of Tate, Georgia and they resided in N.E. Atlanta where they raised their three children: Connie, Rhonda, and Tim. Carl was a printer and retired after 39 years with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In 1991, they moved to Dacula, Georgia to be closer to their children and grandchildren. When Carl died in 2008 from emphysema, the couple had shared 58 years of marriage. In 2009, Frances moved from Dacula to Great Oaks Senior Living in Monroe, Georgia. Survivors include her three children: Connie (Anderson) Strickland of Tulsa, OK; Rhonda (Wayne) Huttoe of Monroe, GA, and Tim (Heather) Christian of Panama City, FL; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her only surviving sibling, Margaret Underwood; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to convey their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the management and staff of Great Oaks for their loving, compassionate care of their mother. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, Oct 18, 2016, 12:00 Noon, at Tim Stewart Funeral Home 209 South Hammond Drive Monroe, Georgia 30655 (Visitation will be from 11am -12pm) Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega, Ga.
