Mary Boyd Cain, 81, of Matthews, NC, passed away on January 12, 2017, of complications from Parkinson's disease. She was born on September 29, 1935, in Edgar Springs, MO, to the late Alfred Delbert and Rachel Boyd. Mary received a scholarship and attended Drury College (University) in Springfield, MO. She graduated in May of 1956 and married the late William F. Cain on October 6, 1957. She had a long career as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration in Atlanta, GA, eventually transferring to Springfield, MO, and finally Charlotte, NC, in 1988. After retiring, she pursued a second career in banking in the Charlotte area. Mary Cain is survived by her son Randall William Cain and his wife Lynn Reddish Cain of Matthews, NC; daughter Anne Marie Cain of Fernandina Beach, FL; grandchildren Callie Alice Cain and Lucy Alea Cain of Matthews, NC, and sister Margaret Boyd of Rolla, MO. She was preceded in death by her siblings Roy Boyd, Mildred Ambrose, and Alfred Delbert Boyd, Jr. Mary Cain enjoyed life and loved her family. She was an active member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and volunteered at numerous organizations to help those less fortunate. She loved to learn and enjoyed reading, investing, and gardening. A memorial service will be held at Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, on Saturday, January 14, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service.
