Rockwell City – Mary J. Alpers 83, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor Chadric Dietrich officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Mary is survived by her husband Morley; daughters, Kaye (Gene) Becker of Pomeroy, and Debra (Judd) Carder of Sunnyvale, CA; sons, Timothy (Pamela) Alpers of Rochester, MN, and Thomas Alpers of New York, NY; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Doris Johnson of Lake City; brother Dean Ashbrook of Manson; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Sarah (Gidel) Ashbrook; brother Lloyd Ashbrook; sister Darlene Golding; and an infant great-grandchild. Mary Jane Ashbrook Alpers was born January 28, 1934 in Jolley, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Jolley and graduated from Jolley High School, with the Class of 1952. Following her education, Mary worked for Iowa Public Service until 1957. On September 9, 1956 she was united in marriage to Morley Alpers at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Knoke. The couple established their home on a farm near Knoke. In 1994, they retired and moved into Rockwell City. Mary enjoyed reading and crafts. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. ...
