Marvin Stadum
Marvin Stadum Marvin Juel Stadum, 86, Loving husband, father and patriot went peacefully to heaven March 13, 2017. Marvin was born February 2, 1931 in Sioux Falls, SD to Helge and Helga (Juel) Stadum. He attended Washington High School graduating in 1949, attending one year at Augustana College before joining the Air Guard in 1950. Marv served in Korea as a Staff Sergeant for the United States Air Force from 1950-1953. He graduated South Dakota State University in 1955 with a BS and also having completed Masters Level work in Economics. On April 30, 1955, he was united in marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia Imker in Sioux Falls. Their marriage was blessed with 5 daughters. Marv worked for the USDA in Washington, DC and Lincoln, NE before returning home in 1958 to join the family concrete construction business, Stadum Construction Company. He eventually became owner and operator of the company and oversaw many complex and large scale jobs throughout his tenure. Marv retired in 1999. We still walk on his sidewalks today. Marv had a love of music, participating in the Legion Chorus for over 30 years, and the First United Methodist Chancel Choir for 50 years. His abiding faith was represented throughout his life, and he was a longtime member of the Higgins Bible Study at First United Methodist Church. Marv had many passions including hunting, fishing, and training Labrador retrievers. He was unparalleled in his devotion to his wife and family. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ginny, daughters, Kristi (Mark) Harriman, Chesapeake, VA, Sonja (Richard) Gourley, Sioux Falls, SD, Teresa (Thomas) Wray, Chicago, IL, Paula (Marc) McFall, Kansas City, MO, and Julie (Russ) Moir, Harrisburg, SD, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sisters Thelma Juel, Ellenton, FL and Marge Lowry, Las Vegas, NV. Marv was preceded in death by his parents, and two grandsons. Memorial Services will begin at 1:00pm Thursday, March 16, at First United Methodist Church. A 10:00am burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery will precede the service. Visitation begins at noon, Wednesday, with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue. A prayer service will also be held at 6:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
