Marvin R. Smiley
April 5, 1933-October 11, 2016 The Villages- Marvin R. Smiley, 83, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Villages Hospital. Marvin was the son of the late Herbert and Marguerite Smiley, born on April 5th, 1933 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was a graduate of Fort Lauderdale High School and attended the University of Florida and Embry-Riddle. After completing high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was deployed from 1950 until 1955 during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Shriner's International organization and contributed to many charitable events during his time with them. He worked as a communication engineer for 31 years with Southern Bell and Bell South in several locations in the southeast. Marvin enjoyed spending time with friends and family and playing golf with his close friends in the Villages. He was preceded in his death by his parents, his sister Betty Widgeon, and his two brothers Larry Smiley and Herbert "Junior" Smiley. Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Smiley of the Villages: son David L. Smiley of Bloomington, Indiana; daughter, Suzie Porter of Boynton Beach, Florida their spouses and three grandchildren.
