Marvin Heck Marvin Heck, age 92 of Sioux Falls, passed away Thursday October 13, 2016. Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Monday October 17, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave. A committal service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 18, at Woodlawn Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to The Children's Inn or the building fund at Zion Lutheran Church. Marvin Heck, son of Reinholdt and Lydia Heck, was born May 17, 1924 at Isabel, SD. He lived on the farm until entering college in 1942. He graduated from the SD School of Mines & Technology with a Civil Engineering Degree in 1948. He married Doris Mielke in Rapid City in 1947. After graduation, Marvin accepted a position with Scott Engineering CO. in Watertown, SD. While employed at Scott Engineering, he held various engineering positions at Sioux Falls and Marshall, MN. In 1953, Marvin accepted the position of City Engineer at Mitchell, SD and filled that position until 1957. In May of 1957 Marvin accepted the engineering position in the pre-stressed concrete division at Gage Brothers Concrete Inc., and retired as the company Vice President on May 16, 1986. Marvin married Dorothy Dolan in Sioux Falls, in 1992. Marvin was baptized and confirmed in the German Congregational faith. In 1947 he was confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and had served on various church boards. Marvin also cherished times spent with his grandchildren. Whether it was attending their functions or taking the grandkids fishing, his grandchildren will remember his great love, his life lessons and kindness. Marvin was a registered professional engineer and land surveyor for the State of SD. He was a member of the South Dakota Engineering Society and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He served as South Dakotas Director to the National Society. He was also a life-long fisherman and enjoyed playing family games. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Dorothy; four sons; Richard (Suzanne), Shorewood, MN, Thomas (Rebecca), Colorado Springs, CO, Charles (JoAnn), Sioux Falls, Jon (Kim), Sioux Falls; step-children, Tamla (Doug) Blunt, Red Feathers Lake, CO, Rebecca (Marvin) Thorstenson, Sioux Falls, and Kenton (Jane) Dolan, Portland, OR; a sister, Donna (Ed) Mullet, Stephentown, NY, brothers, Arnold, Casselton, ND, William (Mary), Elk River, MN, and Robert (Christine), of Virginia; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. His first wife Doris, infant brother, sisters Dorothy and Vivian, step-daughter Rhonda Dolan, preceded him in death. www.millerfh.com ... Show More
