Martin "Marty" Bannan Sparks passed away suddenly on October 8, 2016 in Grizzly Flats, CA. He was born on August 22, 1970 in Auburn, CA. He grew up in Gilroy and Penryn, CA and graduated from Del Oro High School in Loomis, CA. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Auburn Composite Starr Squadron 92 and earned the Carl A Spaatz award (#1070) as a Cadet Colonel, which less than 1% of all cadets earn nationwide. Marty graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and earned a Bachelor degree in Aeronautical Science. He became a commissioned officer in the US Army and was honorably discharged after 6 years of service at the rank of Captain, trained in military intelligence. He earned the Army Commendation medal, National Defense Service medal, Humanitarian Service medal, Oversea Service ribbon and Parachutist badge. Marty was both a private and commercial pilot. He was also certified as a flight instructor. For the last 10 years, Marty was working as a Check Airman and Safety Manager for XO Jet and was assigned at their Sacramento Operations Center at McClellan, CA. Marty's spirit soared and he was reinvigorated when in his favorite chair in the cockpit. He brought back that enthusiasm to the office and directed his inspiration to everyone he mentored and supported. In August of 2001 Marty had, "In his words" the good fortune of marrying Charity. Their sons Bryson and Skyler were born in 2008, then in 2011 they moved to their dream property in Grizzly Flats, CA. Marty is survived by his wife Charity and their twin boys Bryson and Skyler of Grizzly Flats, CA; his mother and father David and Susan Sparks; sisters Janette Wysocki (Chris), and Jennifer Hustace (Jeff); brother Andrew Sparks; godparents Bob and Donna Reid; mother and father-in-law Dick and Karen Schanzenbach; brothers-in-law John Schanzenbach (Calandra), Michael Schanzenbach (Samantha). A service will be held on October 22, 11:00 AM at Rolling Hills Christian Church on 800 White Rock Road, El Dorado Hills, CA. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church. Marty's family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations towards the boys school tuition be made, "In loving memory of Martin Sparks", to Providence Christian School at 3800 N Shingle Road, Shingle Springs, CA 95682. Marty was very much loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy, prayers and acts of kindness during this time.
