Martha Ann Harrison Snelson ""Mrs. Snelson"", 78, of Bulls Gap, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016 at home after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. After graduating Tusculum College, she taught at Bulls Gap School for 34 years. She and her husband Glenn made their home in Bulls Gap and raised their three children there in their dream home. Martha's passions in life were her family and teaching. The most important thing to her was to see each one of her students succeed. Martha served as Tennessee Education Association President for numerous years where she fought for teachers' rights and salaries. Politics was also a big part of her life. Martha was a long time, strong, southern Democrat. She served several terms on the Board of Alderman for Bulls Gap to help make her town a better place. Another passion in Martha's life was following and cheering on the UT Lady Vols and UT Football, along with the Boston Celtics, Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves. Martha was a member of Bulls Gap First United Methodist Church and the Rebekah and Ruth Women's Circles, Bulls Gap Lions Club, Women's Auxiliary of the VFW and Bulls Gap Railroad Museum. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Cubert and Cora Harrison; husband of 54 years, Glenn James Snelson, Sr.; brother, Junior Harrison of Morristown; and brother-in-law Milton Babb of Colonial Heights. Survivors include sister, Evelyn Babb of Kingsport; brother, Rex (Francis) Harrison of Greeneville; children, Glenn James (Jimmy) Snelson, Jr. (Judy) of Sevierville, Becki (Jack) Gaut of Bulls Gap and Amy (Scotty) Lee of Morristown; granddaughters, Jacqulyn (Brad) Jones and Brooks Gaut; as well as numerous nieces and nephews she dearly loved. Martha, like her husband Glenn, donated her body to The University of Tennessee Medical Center for medical research. A memorial service has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 at First United Methodist Church in Bulls Gap. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
