Martha Yvonne Franks departed this world on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at age 97. Martha was born on June 2, 1919, at home in Reedley, CA, to French immigrants, Joseph and Marie Ribail. She was the seventh of eight children. Her senior year in high school, she decided she had had enough of Reedley, and hitchhiked to Fresno, CA. In Fresno, she worked as a housekeeper, until she met and married Floyd Gibson, in 1939. After they were married, they moved to Long Beach, CA, and then Ventura, CA, where Floyd worked building docks and loading ships during the war. After the war, they returned to Fresno, where they lived until 1950, when Floyd bought a Ford dealership in Tulare, CA, and they moved to Tulare. In Tulare, Martha was involved in women's clubs and raising her children. After Floyd's death in 1963, she married Ray Franks. They remained in Tulare, until Martha's daughter graduated from high school and then moved to Fresno. Ray and Martha loved traveling and collecting antiques. Martha became involved in the Palmer women's club and became an avid bridge player. She played in various bridge clubs two to three times a week. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; one brother; her husband, Floyd Gibson; her ex-husband, Ray Franks; her son, Malcolm Gibson and wife Carol; and her grandson, Fredrick Gibson. Martha is survived by her sons, Mike and wife Cathy of Yuba City, CA, and Keith and wife Kim of San Luis Obispo, CA; and her daughter, Barbara of Fresno, CA. She is also survived by her sister, Lucille of Santa Cruz, CA; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Sterling & Smith Funeral Home, 409 N. K St., Tulare, CA, on Monday, February 20, 2017, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 125 E. Prosperity Ave., Tulare, CA, on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.
