DULUTH, Ga. — Marlene Catherine Overly, age 66, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend died at home on April 15, 2017, following a long and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Her strong will, her faith, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through the many months of grueling chemotherapy. Throughout her fight, she never complained and was always full of strength and hope. Marlene was born Aug. 5, 1950, in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Ruth (Albers) Holthaus. She graduated from Fort Loramie High School in 1968. On Aug. 5, 1972, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Patrick, Ohio, Marlene married Charles David "Dave" Overly. Dave, also after a battle with cancer, preceded Marlene in death in 2007, shortly before they were to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. Marlene is survived by her two loving children, Toni (and David) Gruber and Jason (and Amanda) Overly; five grandchildren, Shawn Menegigian, Ty Overly, Sarah Gruber, Emma Overly and Sadie Overly; 15 siblings, Rosemary (and Marvin) Albers, Anna, Ohio, Bernard (and Bobbi) Holthaus, Sidney, Ohio, Dorothy Inman, Mesa, Arizona, Carol (and Larry) Voisard, Fort Loramie, Ohio, Fred Holthaus, Anna, Ohio, Marian Bensman, Russia, Ohio, Rick (and Deb) Holthaus, Anna, Ohio, Pat (and Mark) Wale, Celina, Ohio, Rita (and Allan) Wente, Minster, Ohio, Treva (and Rick) Monnier, Tipp City, Ohio; Mark (and Sharon) Holthaus, Anna, Ohio, Bill (and Deb) Holthaus, Anna, Ohio, Jerry Holthaus, Anna, Ohio, Margie (and Jerry) Gepfrey, Anna, Ohio, and Rob Holthaus, Anna, Ohio; and brother-in-law, Steve (and Judi) Overly, Vero Beach, Florida. One of her greatest joys was spending time with (and spoiling) her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by many, as will her wonderful baking.
