Mark Cecil McCracken Jr.
Mark Cecil McCracken Jr., 74, of Charles Town, WV, died peacefully at home on January 10, 2017 following a short illness. Mark was born on April 15, 1942 in Smithfield, UT, the son of the late Cecil M. McCracken and Doris Wabbs McCracken. Mark graduated from Cache County School in Logan, UT. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Mark was a down to earth person with no sugar coating, and very few people saw his heart of gold. His favorite saying was "Flag is up. Flag is down. The race is over." He had a dry sense of humor. You liked Mark, or you didn't. In his spare time, Mark enjoyed gardening, antiques, taming kittens and training horses. He was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Surviving him in addition to the love of his life, Pat McCracken, his wife of 35 years, are "Ace", his grandson, and Elizabeth and Jason Meehan, known as Daddy Mac's children. Mark was an only child. He had lots of aunts and uncles and a close friend, Wilson Davis. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the funeral home with Chaplain Eddie Householder officiating. As those who knew and loved Mark understand, he was a hard-working man, and did not stand for formality. In keeping with his spirit, before his death, Mark expressed his wish that those attending the service wear jeans. Interment will be in Utah at a later date.
