Marjorie S. "Marge" Miesmer Cumberland, MD Marjorie S. "Marge" Miesmer, 94, of Cumberland, Maryland died on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Foulk Manor North, Wilmington, Delaware. Born on July 8, 1922, in Port Huron, Michigan, she was the daughter of Charles and Regina Stanley. Marge graduated from St. Stephen High School in Port Huron and attended Port Huron Junior College. During World War II, she served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and was very proud of her service to our country. Marge would greet any fellow Marine veteran with "Semper Fi." While in Cumberland, Marge was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Friends Aware. She and her husband, Bob, enjoyed camping and they took several long trips across country, including a trip to Alaska. Among her other interests were bowling and playing cards. She had a great sense of humor, which was evident even in the last months of her life. Marge is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Mary) Miesmer of Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania; Thomas (Susan) Miesmer of Melbourne, Florida; and daughter Kathryn (Bruce) Atwood of Shoreham, Vermont; four grandchildren Sharon (Kevin) Murphy of Mount Royal, New Jersey; Maureen Miesmer (Joshua Hurvitz) of Kensington, Maryland; Tim (Jessica) Miesmer of Richmond, Kentucky; Samantha Atwood of Orwell, Vermont; six great-grandchildren, Jack and Kellen Murphy; Matthew and Anna Hurvitz; Addison Atwood and Avery Clark; and several nieces and nephews. Marge was predeceased by her husband, Bob, and her sisters: Dolores Collard, Durcilla Stanley, Bernadine Newberry, Beulah Powers, Viola Schmidt, and Cecilia Shortt. While Marge was in her home in Cumberland, she was under the care of Tender Loving Health Care. The family would like to thank them, especially Treva Beal, for all they did for her for several years. They would also like to thank the staff on the 3rd floor of the Health Care Center at Foulk Manor North and Vitas Hospice for their kindness and compassion. At Marge's request, her remains were donated to the Maryland State Anatomy Board. A Memorial Mass will be held in the chapel of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Mountains Church, 300 East Oldtown Road, Suite 2, Cumberland, Maryland 21502.
