In memory of
Marion Inez McLendon
Marion Inez McLendon was born in Natchez, Mississippi, on July 10, 1919, to Fredrick Conway McLendon and Lela Mae Bunch McLendon. She went to her Lord and Savior on April 17, 2017. Marion spent her early years in San Antonio, moving to Austin with her family in 1931. She professed her faith in Jesus in 1932 and was baptized at Congress Avenue Baptist Church. She was a long-time member of Hyde Park Baptist Church, finally attending Austin Baptist Church in the few years right before moving with her niece to the Dallas area in 2010. Marion's work ethic was strong, spending long hours as manager of the art department at Hemphill's Bookstore on "the Drag" right across from the University of Texas. She was respected and admired by art professors at UT, diligently working with them to have the art supplies they required available for students each semester. She epitomized Colossians 3:23-24: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Marion took a hiatus from full-time work to care for her mother in her final years, going back to work part-time at Tarrytown Pharmacy, gradually slowing down prior to moving away from Austin. Marion was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Conway McLendon, and sister-in-law, Gene McLendon. She is survived by niece Gayle McLendon Sheehan of Duncanville; her son, Captain Jonathan Kirby Sheehan, of Lawton, Oklahoma, his wife Caitlin Gilmore Sheehan and their daughters, Arabella Rose Sheehan and Aurora Lee Sheehan; step-great niece Sandi Sheehan Roberts and family. Marion is also survived by nephew Jim Conway McLendon of Georgetown; his children, Austin Conway McLendon, of San Marcos, his wife Misti Scott McLendon, their children, Hailey Lee McLendon and Ryder Conway McLendon; Travis Farrow McLendon, of Georgetown; and Cooper Sarah McLendon, of Bethesda, Maryland. Marion loved her niece and nephew and enjoyed even more seeing her great nephews and great niece grow through their early years. Graveside service at Capital Parks, Pflugerville, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017. David Procter of Austin Baptist Church will officiate. Memorials to a charity in her name are suggested in lieu of flowers.
