Marion Rita Howe Marion Rita Howe (80) of San Francisco, CA passed away on October 13, 2016 after a long battle with colon cancer. Rita was born on March 15, 1936 in Philipsburg, PA to the late Thomas A. and Marion Bailey Howe. She grew up in nearby Morrisdale, PA. She leaves two sisters, Margaret Jane Howe of Springfield, VA and Cecelia (John) Rudy of Morganville, NJ. She was predeceased by her sister Nora Marie Howe. Rita is also survived by nephews John (Annelena) Rudy and Christopher (Pinar) Rudy; also by great niece and nephew Amelia Ambrose and John Gabriel Rudy. Rita graduated from Morris Township High School. She attended Penn State University where she earned a BA in Liberal Arts and a MA in History. She was a Life Member of Penn State Alumni Association and a past member of the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. By profession, Rita was an editor. She worked at the American Historical Association in Washington DC and later at Harvard University Press in Cambridge, MA. She moved from Boston to California where she did editing for several Scholar's Publishers. Her mother and sister Nora Marie later moved to Fremont, CA to be near her. Rita saw to their care as long as they lived. Rita was a Communion Minister and Lector at Santa Paula Church in Fremont, St. Mary's Cathedral, in San Francisco, and St. Ignatius Church at the University of San Francisco. Funeral and burial services will take place in Morrisdale, PA.
