Marion Day Morrison Dunn was born to William James and Bertha Morrison in Auburn NY on August 26, 1925. She attended East High School then the Auburn City Hospital School of Nursing, and became a Registered Nurse in 1946. Married in 1948 to William Edward Dunn, Marion started her family in Olean NY. The family moved to Monmouth Beach NJ in 1956 before settling in Whippany NJ in 1962. While raising her large, rambunctious family, Marion worked weekends at Crestwood Nursing Home for many years to keep her nursing skills current. Marion was widowed in 1973 by the sudden death of her husband. Following his death, Marion returned to college attending Jersey City State where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1979. While working towards her college degree, Marion worked part-time at Crestwood Nursing Home and part time as school nurse at Cedar Knolls School. After receiving her degree, she worked as school nurse and health educator at Morris County Education Services Commission, which ran a program for NI and ED children, a role perfectly suited to her caring heart, until her retirement in 1996. In 1992, Marion received the State of New Jersey Governor's Teacher Recognition Certificate for her exceptional contributions, in part, "for the development of feelings of self-worth and love of learning in students." She also received a Certificate of Recognition for her contribution to improving health education and school nursing from the Morris County School Nurses Association in 1996. After her retirement, Marion received an award for Outstanding Community Service for her volunteer work at Park Lake School. She was a perpetual traveler, visiting her children and grandchildren across this vast continent. She loved being with, listening to and making cookies with her grandchildren. Marion moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2013, making many new friends and remaining very active in her new community.
