Mario Saul Silvestre M.D.
December 24, 1931 - April 11, 2017 Mario Saul Silvestre, M.D., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on April 11, 2017 at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. He was the husband of Dora Garcia Silvestre, M.D.. They shared 55 years of marriage together. Born on December 24, 1931 in Jujuy, Argentina, he was the son of Eusebio and Petrona Silvestre. He received his medical degree at the University of Tucuman, where he met his wife Dora. He completed his internship at East Orange General Hospital in New Jersey and his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. After the family moved to California in 1966, he opened his private practice in Torrance, where he worked until 1997. Dedicated to patient care, Mario continued practicing medicine at the Wilmington Community Clinic until his diagnosis. Mario lived on the Palos Verdes Peninsula for 50 years until moving to Redondo Beach in 2016. He was a devoted parishioner of St. John Fisher Catholic Church. Mario was a founding member of Casa de Los Angelitos, a maternity home helping pregnant women in crisis situations; served on the Donations Committee for Partners of the Americas; and worked ad-honorem for local and international medical projects. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, quiet dignity, unending hunger for knowledge and dedication to those in need. Mario is survived by his wife Dora; his son Ricardo Gustavo and wife Rosanna and their daughter Anneliese; his son David Gerard and wife Patricia and their children Matias, Cristian and Karina; his son Paul Mario; his brother-in-law Rafael Solis, M.D. and sister-in-law Teresa Solis and their children Rodolfo, Rafael, Lucia, and Nadia and all their beloved children. Family and friends of Dr. Silvestre will hold a funeral mass on Saturday, April 22 at 11 AM at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, California 90275, to be followed by a reception on premises at Barrett Hall and subsequently the internment at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, California 90275.
