Marina A. Guerena
August 22, 1919 - October 12, 2016 At the age of 97 Marina passed away peacefully at home as she had wished. She leaves the world with a little more sparkle because of her presence. Marina was born in the town of Cocorit, Sonora, Mexico. Her parents were Alejo and Maria Terminel Alvarez. Her father, who had graduated from St. Vincent's College in Los Angeles (later renamed Loyola High School), passed away before she was born. After her father's death, her mother and older brother moved into her grandfather's home in Cocorit where she was born. At age 3 Marina, her mother and her brother moved to Los Angeles where she was raised and educated. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard, and her brother, William, and is survived by her three sons, Richard, Javier (Linda), and Edward (Barbara); her sister, Yolanda Landis; her ten grandchildren and 17 1/2 great grandchildren. Her family is especially thankful for her friends at the Manhattan Village Senior Villas, particularly for her Canasta group, all of whom made it a point to drop in on Marina to socialize and check on her well-being. They brought great comfort to her. Funeral services will be at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 1:00 PM.
