Marilyn Jean Wahl, age 72, of Monroe, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday in her home after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Friends and family may visit from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Rupp Funeral Home where a scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Rev. Philip Ching, pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Born October 21, 1944, she was the daughter of the late John and Elva (Schultz) Sefcik. Marilyn was a 1962 graduate of St. Mary Academy. She married her loving husband Gerald F. Wahl on May 21, 1979 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Monroe. Marilyn retired in 2005 after working for more than 30 years as a clerk for the Monroe County Drain Commissioner's office. Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her husband. They not only traveled throughout the United States and Canada, they made several trips to Europe. She was an excellent cook and was known for her cookies, strawberry rhubarb pie and pumpkin pie. In her spare time she enjoyed basket weaving and collecting antiques, especially pink depression glass and flow-blue china. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Ronald J. (Lola) Calandra of Sumter, South Carolina, and Marc W. (Jennifer) Calandra of Monroe; four grandchildren: Alex, Ian and Emily Calandra all of Texas and Benjamin Calandra of Monroe, and two sisters, Barbara (Louis) Salow of Monroe and Sandra Thompson of Milan.
