Coombs, Marilyn Joanne (Whitney) Marilyn Coombs, 86, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at Jackson County Medical Care Facility in Jackson, MI. Born June 6, 1930 in Jackson, she was the daughter of Wendell Whitney and Ruth (Raymond) Whitney. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson and an active lifetime member of the Calvary United Methodist Church. She was a long term employee of Michigan Bell Telephone Company and became a highly skilled trainer for PBX systems. In past years she travelled annually with the Jackson Trippers to Palm Springs, CA. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, brothers, Raymond Whitney; and Dean Whitney. She is survived by a sister, Caroyl (Jud) Pettis of Mechanicsburg, PA; a niece, Kay (Dave) Kerwin of Delton, MI; and nephews, Bruce (Carol) Whitney, of Fort Wayne, IN; Scott (Gwen) Pettis, Camp Hill, PA; Jeffery Pettis, New York, NY; Kurt Pettis, Jupiter, FL; Eric (Patrice) Pettis, Elizabethtown, PA; and Brett Pettis, Mechanicsburg, PA; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. A private burial will be conducted at the Pherdun Cemetery in Sandstone Township. On-line tributes may be posted on the Wetherby Funeral Home website. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, October 21, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 925 Backus in Jackson, Pastors Eric Iden and Lillian French officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Calvary United Methodist Church.
