Marie Douglass Sheppard, 94, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2016. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Mount Olivet. Marie was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Fort Worth to Joseph Edgar Douglass and Carrah Edmondson Douglass. She graduated from Diamond Hill High School in 1940. She attended Fort Worth Business College and Texas Christian University. She married her high school sweetheart, Guy Edward "Sonny" Sheppard, May 17, 1940. Marie worked from 1946 to 1960s with her husband in Sheppard's Grocery and Market on 33rd Street on the north side of Fort Worth. She also worked at Globe Aircraft during World War II, working on the AT-10 aircraft, assembling automated pilots. She then retired from Maremont Corp. as the procurement officer, retired from the Fort Worth Police Department as administrative assistant, and retired from Department of Justice (DEA) where she was admin assistant to the RAC. Marie was awarded several awards for outstanding performance. After her retirement, she was active in her community and the Dan Echols Senior Center in North Richland Hills. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed her tour bus activities along with crafts and ceramics. Marie was an avid Texas Rangers Baseball fan and was a member of the Texas Rangers Baseball Women's Club. She also spent many years working at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. Survivors: "Meemaw," as she was lovingly known, leaves behind her devoted husband of 76 years, Guy Edward Sheppard; sons, Guy Edward Sheppard Jr. and companion, Mary Duff, and James "Jim" Lynn Sheppard; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Edgar and husband, Don Darwin Edgar Jr.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; and many cherished friends.
