Fitzmaurice, Marie L. Marie Irene Lutz Fitzmaurice passed away very peacefully at the age of 80 in her home of 45 years on Monday October 10, 2016. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 27th, 1936 to the late Dr. Richard Lutz and Grace Murphy Lutz, the family moved to Stamford shortly thereafter. Marie attended St. John's Catholic Primary School and was a 1954 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford. She then graduated from The Catholic University of America in Washington DC in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Marie began her nursing career at Greenwich Hospital, but not long after, was introduced to the love of her life her husband of 53 years, the late Daniel W. Fitzmaurice, also from Stamford. They were married in 1962 and moved to San Francisco for a period of time, when they adopted their son, Paul Joseph Fitzmaurice in 1969. As both Dan and Marie were longing to return to their hometown and family, they moved back to Stamford in 1972 where Marie became very involved with her community. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, the Catholic Nurses Association and was an active parishioner of St Leo Parish. Marie also resumed her nursing career, working for the Stamford Public Schools and as a nurse for allergist Dr. Robert Biondi for almost 30 years. Marie loved being on the water and enjoyed many summer weekends boating on Long Island Sound, in particular touring inlets and coves and going across The Sound to Northport for dinner. Marie also loved her friends and family and to entertain at her home, where she was a most gracious and elegant hostess. Marie had a penchant for travel and did so extensively with Dan and their good friends. Marie is survived by her son Paul J. Fitzmaurice and his wife Gina Malone, her 3 grandchildren, Caitlin, Melissa and Jonathan, her two sisters Ann Vickers and Carol Holland and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday October 17th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home( next to Knights of Columbus) 453 Shippan Ave Stamford (203)-359-9999.
