Derber, Marie Marie Elizabeth Derber, age 90, passed away October 12, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin with her family at her side. She was born August 4, 1926, in the Town of Rushford, Wisconsin to the late John and Bertha Pollex Kratz. Marie was raised on a dairy farm along with one brother and six sisters. She attended Liberty Grade School and later graduated as the valedictorian of the Omro High School class of 1944. After attending Oshkosh Business College, she taught a year at St. John's School in Berlin. Marie especially enjoyed going to the dances at the Eagles Club in Oshkosh where she met Richard Derber. On June 19, 1948, Marie married Dick at Trinity Lutheran Church in Borth and the couple recently celebrated their 68th anniversary. They had a dairy farm south of Oshkosh where they raised their children: twins Howard and Richard, Janet, Wayne and Jane. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served as treasurer of the women's group. She also encouraged her children in 4-H and was the clothing leader for many years. Marie enjoyed several activities which included: I Love to Dance Club, playing organ and accordion, singing, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sewing, gardening, cheering for the Packers and Brewers, feeding the cardinals and humming birds, and playing cards with her family and friends. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Marie is survived by her husband, Dick; children: Howard Derber of Fond du Lac, Richard (Jean) Derber of Oshkosh, Janet Derber of Lombard, IL, Wayne (Melody) Derber of Sandwich, IL, Jane (John) Schubert of Fond du Lac; grandchildren: Alicia Katherine, Jill Heather, Wendi (Dave), Loree, Scott, Lindsey, Jesse (Lyndsey), Levi (Katie), Matthew, Allison and Taylor; six great-grandchildren: Camryn, Zoe, Miles, Charles, Samantha and Nathan; sister and brothers-in-law: Ruth and Clair Retzlaff, Ray Marks and Norman Schneiter; sister-in-law Betty Derber. She was preceded in death by her infant son; brother Louis Kratz; sisters and brothers-in-law: Louise and Clarence Wright, Esther Marks, Helen and Bud Lee, Lorraine Schneiter, Marian and Orin Retzlaff; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: David (Lois), Russell (Marcella), Bob, Don (Ginny) Derber, Mary Ross and Charles Ross. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 491 Old Oregon Rd., Town of Nekimi, with Rev. James Reiff officiating. Family and friends will be received at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
