Ventura, Maria Elydia passed on August 13, 2016, after a long health struggle. Mary was born May 30, 1939, to Apolinar and Justina Ventura of Placentia, one of eight children. After graduating from Valencia High School in 1958, she completed the licensed vocational nursing program at Fullerton College and worked as an LVN at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton for the next five years. In 1969, Mary enrolled in the nursing program at the University of Albuquerque, and earned an AA degree in Nursing. Mary returned to Orange County to work at area hospitals, including Anaheim Memorial and St. Jude. She also enrolled in the Registered Nursing program at CSU Fullerton. In 1975, she was awarded a BS degree in Nursing from CSUF. Throughout most of her 50-year career, Mary worked as a critical care unit nurse and emergency room nurse. In 2000, she became a nursing teacher and shared her years of knowledge with aspiring CCU and ER nurses. After retiring as a working nurse in 2008, she went on to earn a Masters Degree in Nursing from UCLA and continued teaching for several years. As a nurse, Mary was always very compassionate and attentive. Whatever the situation, she did her best to make her patients comfortable and provide them with outstanding medical care. To her many nephews and nieces, she was always the go-to person for first aid or advice. It was her reassuring manner, calmness and talent for making things better that could work wonders in a stressful situation. She is survived by her longtime friend, Georgianne Amey; her sisters, Dolores and Cecelia; her brother Frank; many nieces and nephews; and several cousins. A memorial Mass is being celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2016, at St. Joseph Church, 717 N. Bradford Avenue, Placentia.
