In memory of
Our beloved faithful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, Margarita Barela Nevarez, age 94, of Las Cruces passed from this life on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Aristocrat Assisted Living Community. She was born October 22, 1922 in Fillmore, NM to Lorenzo and Ramona Benavidez Barela. Margarita was a homemaker and a communicant at the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe where she was a member of the Altar Society. Those left to mourn her passing include her loving husband of seventy years, Isidoro S. Nevarez of the family home; two sons, Gilbert Nevarez (Terry) and Lawrence Nevarez (Alice); two daughters, Eloisa Gutierrez (Arturo) and Rose Ziehl (Paul) all of Las Cruces; and a sister, Herminda Medina of El Paso, TX. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Margarita was preceded in death by her brothers, Ricardo Delfin, Johnny and Arturo Barela, and a sister, Lucia Granillo. Visitation will begin at 6 PM Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM Friday, April 21, 2017 in the same church with the Reverend Valentine Jankowski Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Tortugas Cemetery where she will be laid to rest the family plot. Serving as casket bearers will be Arthur and Joeal Gutierrez, Darwin Ziehl, Michael Coffing, Jacob Nevarez, Jason Ziehl, Isaiah Nevarez and Greg Fernandez.
