In memory of
Margarita M. (Montelongo) Lopez
Edinburg - "I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" -2Timothy 4:7 Our sister, Magarita Montelongo Lopez was granted her Angel wings on October 10, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her final days were spent surrounded by family. Margarita (Maggie) was born October 14, 1942 in Childress, Texas to the late Hermenejildo and Julia (Alvarez) Montelongo. She was raised in Donna, Texas, and in 1990 she moved to Edinburg where she resided at the time of her death. Maggie worked with the Donna ISD from 1975-1983 as cafeteria manager, followed by South Texas ISD for Health Profession in Mercedes, Texas from 1983-1987, and finally ended her career with the Edinburg CISD Food Service from 1990-2010 where she worked as the Cafeteria Manager with Edinburg North High School, South Middle School and lastly, retired from Austin Elementary in 2010. She loved her job and always took pride in making sure that every child was provided for. Learning how to cook at a very early age, Margarita enjoyed having her family over for family meals. Everyone enjoyed her delicious cooking, especially her "menudo and carne guisada" and morning breakfast of "huevos rancheros" that she took pride in cooking for everyone. Her house was the meeting place for all the "Montelongo" family when they came down for visits. Everyone enjoyed her wonderful cooking and they knew they would never go hungry at tia Maggie's house. Margarita was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg and the St. Joseph Altar Society. She regularly attended mass on Saturday at St. Joseph Church in Edinburg, St. Jude Church in Pharr, or Holy Family Church in Edinburg. Her pride and joy was her family. She was very proud of her children. The deaths of two sons, Johnny R. Lopez (August 1995) and Dr. Ruben Montelongo Lopez (June 2015) left an empty space in her heart. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Fernando) Castillo, Richard Lopez, Donna; Mary Cantu, Regino (Patricia) Lopez III, Edinburg and daughter in law, Adriana Lopez, San Antonio. Her grandchildren are David Lopez, Sara Lopez, Gabriel Castillo, Kelsie (Sergio) Garza, Ashley Castillo, Daniel Lopez, Miguel Lopez, Laura Lopez, Emmanuel Lopez, Juliannah Lopez, Juliette Cantu, Carlos Cantu, Julienne Cantu, and Nathan Rambo.
