Margaret "Maggie" Miller RN Ph.D.
Miller, Margaret "Maggie," Ph.D., RN, 77, died peacefully with her family at her side, Sunday, October 16, 2016. She was a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, born to the late Byron and Laura Thompson. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, and a retired Professor of Nursing (2007) at Bellarmine University. Her education includes a BSN from Indiana University, a MSN from the University of Kentucky, a MA and PhD from the University of Louisville. She volunteered for many organizations including: the Board of Trustees for the Episcopal Church Home (2003-2009), a past president of Kentucky Nurses Association (1979-1980), a past president of Kentuckiana Girl Scout Council, numerous leadership positions with the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky, All Saints Episcopal Camp and Conference Center (where she was affectionately known as "Nurse Maggie"), and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She won several awards including The Reverend Monsignor Alfred F. Horrigan Service Award (2009), the KNA Distinguished Nurse of the Year Award (2002), KNA Nurse of the Year (1997), and the Kentuckiana Girl Scout Council Women of Distinction Award (1997). She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jerry D. Miller; her daughter, Cynthia Miller Caudill (Eric); grandchildren, Dr. Joshua David Caudill (Britney) and Nicholas Adam Caudill (Holly Mueller); sisters, Molly Thompson Dunscombe (Miles) and Betsy Thompson; and many nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 8110 St. Andrews Church Rd. Visitation is 2-8 pm Wednesday at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son Funeral Home, 7336 Southside Dr. A committal service will be held in the cremation garden at St. Peter's at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Kentuckiana Girl Scout Council.
