LANCASTER — Margaret Sitton Marshall, 89, of Lancaster, S.C., passed away October 4, 2016. She was born June 2, 1927 in Anderson County, S.C., the daughter of Joseph John Sitton and Deborah Mauldin Sitton. Margaret Marshall graduated from Easley High School and attended Winthrop College. Margaret was married to the late Harold Hatton Marshall of Rock Hill, S.C., and for 65 of their 66 married years they lived in Lancaster, S.C., where they were the owners of Marshall's Furniture Company, Marshall's Music & Piano, and Marshall's Clothing. Margaret and Harold were active members in The First Presbyterian Church and supporters of The University of South Carolina - Lancaster. Margaret loved people and had an eye for the beauty in life, which she loved to share with her family and friends. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed spending time with her many friends in her bridge clubs, garden club, book club, supper club and The Cotillion Club. A wonderful cook and hostess, Margaret took great pride in her beautifully arranged tables and delicious meals. Surviving are two daughters, Clara Margaret Marshall Rogers and husband Wayne, of Landrum, S.C., and Jo Sitton Marshall Roper and husband John of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, John Tyler Roper (Kristina), Robert Marshall Rogers (Christina), Kelley Jo Roper Garrity (Michael), Hannah Hatton Rogers Metcalfe (Logan), and Emily Ann Rogers Delmas (Andrew); and 10 great-grandchildren, Eleanor Arrington Roper, William Winters Rogers, Margaret Marshall Rogers, Linda Hallenbeck Rogers, Lillian Jo Garrity, William Michael Garrity, Marshall Keith Metcalfe, Riley Hatton Metcalfe, Lucy Sitton Delmas and Joseph Porter Delmas. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and sisters Emma Sitton Parrish and Esther Sitton White Pope. A memorial service honoring the life of Margaret Ann Sitton Marshall will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster. Following the service, the family will receive family and friends at the church.
