Margaret J. Hurdle
BURLINGTON – Margaret J. Hurdle, 87, of Caswell County, passed away at her residence at 11:10 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017. A native of Greenville, NC, she was the wife of the late William P. (Bill) Hurdle and the daughter of the late James Snowden Johnson and the late Dorthy Lucille Cokers Johnson. She retired from Alamance County Social Services after 21 years of service. She started the first Red Cross Club in Caswell County, was a member of the Anderson Home Makers Club and Bethel Christian Church. Margaret is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Hurdle Oberlin and Allen Oberlin of Roanoke, VA and Jean Hurdle Grubb and Steven Grubb of Lovingston, VA; two sons, William P. (Willie) Hurdle and Dawn Hurdle of Burlington and Frank Hurdle and Tina Freeman, also of Burlington; six grandchildren, Dustin Hurdle (Cara), Casey Hurdle (fiancée Matt Parker), Kristy Albright (Zack), Katie Bryson, Margaret Hudson and Jolyn Davis; three great-grandchildren, Bo Albright, Allen Hudson and Darian Rutter; two brothers, Edward Allen Johnson and Jackie Lee Johnson; and two sisters, Bettie Ruth Boswell and Janie Frances Garrow. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Hurdle; brother, Buddy Johnson; and sister, Peggy Gregory. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Bethel Christian Church, 595 Baynes Road, Burlington, NC (Caswell County) by Rev. Barry Lane. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
