Luther Caldwell Thompson Sr. LUMBERTON — Luther Caldwell Thompson Sr., 77, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. Luther was born in Jan. 12, 1940, in Lumberton at Thompson Hospital. He was educated at Western Military Academy in Alton, Ill., Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, Ill., and Murray State University in Murray, Ky. He careered as a stock broker at Powell Kistler and Co. which merged with E.F. Hutton in Fayetteville. He later moved to Atlanta, Ga., and managed the southeastern region of E.F. Hutton. Luther was a member of First Baptist Church, Rotary Club, and SAR. He shared a lifelong love of boating, hunting, and fishing with his three sons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Neill A. Thompson Jr. of Lumberton and Eldorado, Ill.; his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Neill A. Thompson Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Luther H. Caldwell of Lumberton; brothers, Alexander B. Thompson and Neill A. Thompson III, and son, Luther C. Thompson Jr. He is survived by his sons, Todd A. Thompson of Lumberton and Lawson B. Thompson (Kara Johnson) of Wilmington; a granddaughter, Mavis E. Thompson, also of Wilmington; a sister, Cathy T. Brents (Bob) of Overland Park, Kan.; his nieces, Cathy T. Brown of Suwanee, Ga., and Sara T. Logan of Austell, Ga.; his nephews, Neill A. Thompson IV of Dunwoody, Ga., Robert D. Thompson of Smithfield, Ky., and Jason F. Brozen of Belton, Mo. A time of visitation will take place prior to the service on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 606 N. Walnut St., Lumberton. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.
