Lucian Young Sr.
Young, Lucian Sr., Lucian E. Young Sr., known to all his friends as "Lucky" Young, passed away Friday October 14, 2016 at age 70; VA Hospital in Louisville. Lucian enlisted in the United States Army at age 19 straight out of High School. While in the Army he served a tour in Vietnam as a Specialist Four with the 1st Platoon, Troup L, 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He received the Silver Star Medal for his gallantry in action, the Purple Heart Medal for combat wounds, along with numerous commendations and citations. Lucian was also Honorably Discharged from the United States Marine Corps. He was a life time member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH); member of the American Legion: GI-Joe Post 244, in Jeffersontown, KY; and a member of American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 1, Louisville. Lucian was a lifetime member of the Black Horse Association and VFW. He twice served as the State Commander for the MOPH Department of Kentucky, and was currently the Chapter Adjutant for MOPH Bluegrass Chapter 146, Louisville. After serving his tour of duty he returned home and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. He worked for the City of Louisville Parks Department as a Grounds Keeper at Bobby Nichols Golf Course before taking a position at the University of Louisville Physical Plant as Grounds Superintendent. He retired after 24years with the University of Louisville in 2004. Preceding him in death is his mother Gladys Proctor Young, his sister Jessica and brother Robert. Left to cherish his loving memory are his wife of 48 years, Deborah, sons Lucian Jr (Cathi) and Darius (Candace), brothers Jerry and Doug, grandchildren Darius II, Kyden and Erin Claire, sister-in-law's Betty Kahafer and Barbara Lutz (Herman), brother-in-law Mike Fields, mother-in-law Veda McLaughlin as well as many nieces, nephews and wonderful life long and current friends. The family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors for the wonderful care given to Lucian during his recent stays. A funeral service will be held at 7 PM on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 with visitation from 1 Pm until the time of the service at Bosse Funeral Home, 1355 Ellison at Barret Avenues. A full military comittal service will be held at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 North Dixie Boulevard, Radcliff Kentucky at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 25, 2016.
