Private family burial will be at Reading Township Cemetery, Farnhamville. There will be no visitation. Louise went home to be with the Lord on October, 15, 2016 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born to Herman, a farmer and an immigrant from Germany who had come to the United States through Ellis Island in the early 1900's and Emma (nee. Jochims) Friedrichs from Tama, Iowa. Louise joined siblings Walter, Alma, Martha and two years later, Bernhardt. Their mother Emma succumbed to Tuberculosis in 1920 at the age of 32 and a few years later Herman was re-married to Anna McCaffe and together they raised five children. Louise graduated from Farnhamville High School as Salutatorian of her class and immediately entered Teachers College for the Summer of 1934. She began teaching that September in a one room school house in the Gowrie School District at the age of 18. On July 5, 1936, Louise was married to Gerald Theodore Onnen of Manson Iowa. They lived in Farnhamville, Iowa and their first child, Jerry Lee was born in July of 1939. Gerald pursued various jobs, among them farming, before enlisting in the US Navy in April of 1944. He served in WWII in the Pacific theatre before being honorably discharged in December of 1945. Soon after he was released from the Navy they moved to Atherton, California where they were employed by a wealthy family as Maid and Chauffeur. Gerald subsequently went on to work for Eichler Homes as a carpenter and foreman and they purchased a home in East Palo Alto in 1950. Jeannette Lou was born in October of 1954 and three years later they moved to a home that was designed and built by Gerald in Los Altos, California. Gerald was owner of Onnen Fence and Lumber Company in Palo Alto and also began acquiring rental properties throughout the bay area and Lake Tahoe. In 1968 they moved to Mountain View and later to Sunnyvale for retirement. In their early retirement years, together they owned and operated House Of Humor in Los Altos from 1974 – 1980. Louise is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband Gerald and son Jerry. She is survived by her daughter Jeannette and son-in-law Doug Grundstrom of Corrales, New Mexico, daughter-in-law June Onnen of Topeka, Kansas, Grandchildren Penny (Paul) Anderson, Greg (Dawn) Onnen, Terry (Liana) Onnen of Topeka, Kansas and Andrew (Amanda) Grundstrom of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, thirteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Louise was a faithful member of Los Altos Lutheran church for over 50 years, a skilled seamstress, cook, gardener, and a fiercely competitive bridge player. She loved her San Francisco Giants, bingo and being outdoors. Louise will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her until we meet her again at the Lord's banquet table. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory can made to the American Heart Association or Los Altos Lutheran Church, 460 South El Monte Ave., Los Altos, Ca. 94022.
