Louis George Filcek, 78, of Sanford, passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 at MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born Nov. 20, 1937 in Fisherville. He was the son of the late William Filcek Sr. and Ida (Reed) Filcek. Louis married the former Rita A. Bartos of Midland June 19, 1999. She survives him. Louie attended Midland Public Schools and was employed by Shorty's Wrecker Service and then by Midland Public Schools where he retired. Louie was an avid fisherman and deer hunter until his health made him unable to get out and enjoy these things. He then pursued these joys via television. His two favorite shows were "Michigan Out of Doors" and "Wilderness Journal." He also enjoyed watching the Red Wings and Tigers. Surviving are his wife; his daughter, Susan (Terry ) Hanley; his first wife Kathy; grandsons, Kris (Leanne) Spaulding and Sean (Lindsey) Hanley; and great-grandsons, Tucker and Tanner Spaulding. He is also survived by his sisters, Norma Asakevich, Eleanor Hafelein, Delores Jones and Marilyn Hunter. He leaves behind his special sidekick, Molly (a Yorkshire Terrier). In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his brothers, William Jr., Ben, Donald, Robert; and his grandson, Zachary Spaulding. A memorial funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 at Our Lady of Grace (St. Agnes) Church in Sanford. The Rev. Fr. Dan Fox OFM Cap. will officiate. Louis' family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Cremation has taken place and internment of his cremains will be in St. Anthony Cemetery (Fisherville) at a later date. Memorial envelopes in Louie's name can be made to Our Lady of Grace Church or to your favorite charity will be available.
