In memory of
Louis Henry Coor
Coor, Louis Henry 92, passed away peacefully in his home in Sun City West on October 15, 2016. He was a proud Arizona native, born and raised in Peoria. After graduating from Peoria HS in 1941, he enlisted in the Navy, serving in Saipan and the Mariana Islands in WW II. Returning home, he enrolled at ASU, using his GI Bill of Rights, and graduated with a degree in Education in 1949. While there he joined the Lambda Phi Sigma fraternity, met a pretty fellow Sun Devil, Barbara J. Heflin, and they were married the summer after graduation. Louie joined the office and school supply company of PBSW in Phoenix, serving 20 years as a sales rep, and 6 years as a manager/director. In 1977 he began a new career, selling new homes for Del E. Webb's Sun City and Sun City West. In 1985 he received an award for selling more than $6M in new home construction. He retired in 1992 to pursue his hobbies, and to travel with Barbara to many wonderful destinations around the world. An avid reader, hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, he earned his Eagle Scout Award, was a life member and past president of the AZ Desert Bighorn Sheep Society, and volunteered with AZ Game and Fish, where he monitored wildlife catchments in the Estrellas for several years. He was also an active member of the ASU Alumni Association, Habitat for Humanity, The Peoria Historical Society, and the VFW. Involved with the The AZ Trail Association for many years, he raised funds and helped build the trail, from the southern AZ border to the Utah border. Other favorite hobbies included golf, woodcarving, and a good game of pool or bridge! Louie is survived by his wife of 67years Barbara, son Scott (Debbie) Coor, daughter Suzanne (John) Gillies of Prescott, and daughter Shelley of Los Angeles and his beloved dog Bijou. He especially enjoyed his times spent with grandchildren Tiffany Coor of Phoenix, Steve Coor of Bozeman, MT, Lisa (Adam) Compton of Phoenix, and Eric Gillies of Phoenix. Great Granddaughter Rhena Grace of Phoenix, also survives. A memorial service and reception will be held on Friday, October 21, at 11 AM at Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel, 13738 W. Camino del Sol, in Sun City West. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley (Peoria) for their wonderful compassionate care, and, in lieu of flowers, suggests donations to them. Rest in peace, Louie! We are all richer for having known you!
