Lorraine Marie Mott 1912-2017 Lorraine Marie Mott, of The Village in Gainesville, FL, died March 21 after a short illness. She was 104 years old. Mrs. Mott was born in Mead NE. on June 25, 1912 to Lydia Josephine and Fred Swanson. She was the eldest of six children. She attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. in 1935. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Page, NE., before marrying her college sweetheart, Gerald Oakley Mott, in 1937. They spent time in Ithaca, New York before moving to Lafayette, IN., where Dr. Mott worked and taught in the Agronomy Department at Purdue University. They moved to Gainesville, FL. in 1968, where Dr. Mott was a professor in the Department of Agronomy until his death in 1984. Mrs. Mott is survived by three of her four children, Glen Mott (Marilyn) of Gainesville, FL., Joanne Batey (Ray) of Panacea, FL, and Gordon Mott (Donna Lilly) of Queretaro, Mexico, and three siblings, Ruth Widman of Batavia, IL, Marian Johnston of Fayetteville, AR, and Dorothy Strandberg of New Richmond, WI. She also had five grandchildren and seven great-grand children and one great great grandchild. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Gerald, and her son Kenneth, and her brother Walter and sister Margaret. Mrs. Mott was a previously a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Mead, NE. and Lafayette, IN. She was a quiet, content and dedicated servant in her community, church and neighborhood. She is now united with her Savior and members of her family in heaven. Lorraine's family also would like to thank all the health care professionals and caregivers, including hospice, who gave our mother a wonderful quality of life. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. June 25th at the First United Methodist Church, 419 N.E. 1st Street, Gainesville, FL., where she was member.
