In memory of
Lois Ann Gowing
Lois Ann Gowing, 84. Resident of Colorado Springs for 42 years passed away on Saturday, October 8th 2016 while in Penrose Hospice. Lois was born on September 19th 1932 in Mobridge, South Dakota to James William Pekas and Jeanette Elizabeth Schueler Pekas. The family moved when Lois was 4 years old to Omaha, Nebraska. Lois and her siblings Darlene and James grew up in South Omaha where there was a large Bohemian population. Lois grew up with a close group of friends and after 80 years they continue to gather for card nights, stay in contact and support each other. Lois left the life she had known in 1959 to follow the love of her life, Charles Max Gowing to Spain. They were married on the 10th of October 1959 in Torrejon, Spain. After returning to the United States they adopted Mary Anne and John Charles in Omaha, Nebraska. Lois lived in Spain; Germany; Aurora, CO; Greensboro, NC; Colorado Springs, CO; Clear Lake, TX and then returned to Colorado Springs, CO in 1978. Lois worked as a secretary with the civil service at SAC headquarters, Omaha where she met Charles. She was a homemaker when her children were young and then worked as a senior sales representative with USAA Insurance. Lois was strong in her faith. She brought back rosaries the Pope had blessed from Italy for her grandchildren. Throughout her life she sang in a church choir and acted as a Eucharistic minister. She sang in the Holy Trinity choir for 42 years and enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow members. Lois was active in her hiking club. She loved the Colorado Mountains, especially the changing of the aspens. She loved travel, gardening, animals and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.. She enjoyed water aerobics and was a member of the "Lois" club. Her dry sense of humor will be missed by all! Her main focus was family and friends. She was proud of her five grandchildren, her friends heard of them…often! Sunday dinners at Nana's were always the best. Her family is trying to find her meatloaf recipe. Lois was known to never forget a Birthday or Anniversary. Friends and family received a card, every year. One of her final requests was a run to the Hallmark store. When her son and daughter were asked separately to describe their mother in one word, they had the same answer. Feisty! Lois is survived by her daughter, Mary Gowing Gallogly and son John Charles Gowing, son-in-law Andrew Gallogly and daughter-in-law Mary Christine Gowing. Grandchildren; Hunter, Tyler, Bria, Alexia and Annamarie. Her sister Darlene Schimonitz and sister-in-law Judy Pekas. Nieces and nephews; Trina, Janice, Traci, Paul, Troy and Trisha. Preceded in death by her husband Charles Max Gowing and her brother James Russell Pekas. A Rosary service will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3122 Poinsettia Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80907, Wednesday, October 19th at 6:00 pm. A funeral mass will be offered Thursday, October 20th at 10:30 am also at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial and reception following. The Gowing and Gallogly Families would like to send a huge thank you to all of her friends and neighbors who have helped with her care for the past few years. You are her angels!
