In memory of
Lillie Niedens
Lillie Viola Niedens, 89, of Durant, Oklahoma passed way October 10, 2016 at Brookdale Living Center in Durant. Viola, as she was known, was born March 23, 1927 in rural Guymon, Oklahoma, to Herbert and Bertha (Bryan) Stearman. Viola lived most of her life in the Hooker area, graduating from Hooker High School in 1945. On June 11, 1944, she married Walter F. Niedens in Hooker and they shared over 40 years together. She and Walter made their home for many years on the family farm near Optima. Along with building a life there with her husband and three daughters, she worked as a bookkeeper for several Hooker businesses and with the City Clerk's office for a brief time. Viola was a life-time member of the Church of the Nazarene and served for many years as the treasurer and nursery attendant for the church in Hooker. She was involved in several clubs over the years including the Mother's Club and Business and Professional Women's Club. In 1994, she moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to her daughters and, in 2007, moved again to the Durant area. Viola enjoyed reading, crocheting and many types of crafting and sewing. She had an extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers that she and her friends and family collected from all over the world. After leaving the Panhandle, her fondness for windmills led to a collection of those reminiscent of her Panhandle life. For the last few years, she was a resident at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Durant, Oklahoma. Viola is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and brother-in-law, May and Ed Lewis, a brother-in-law, Elmo Dahl, sisters-in-law, Elfrieda Enns and husband Ernest, and Alvina Enns Neighbors and husband, Leonard, granddaughter DeNetta Hagerman and her husband, Larry, and grandson, Mike Booth. She is survived by her three daughters, Selma and John Booth of Richardson, Texas, Kay and Larry Hall of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Melissa and Scott Cathey of Mead, Oklahoma, two sisters, Fay Dahl of Clifton, Texas and Juanita and Ken McLain of Salem, Oregon; five grandchildren, Doug Booth and his wife, Lori, Jeff Booth, Lynette Vanhorn and her husband, Chris, Kim Barnes and her husband, Gary and Scott Hall; 11 great-grandchildren Brent Booth and his wife, Jolie, Cory Booth, Ashley Hagerman, Weston Hagerman, Megan Booth, Wesley Booth, Morgan Vanhorn, Jake Barnes, John Barnes, Tanner Hall and his wife, Kaitlynn, and McKay Hall; three great-great grandchildren, Addison Cook, Rori Hall and Rylan Hall along with many special nieces and nephews.
