In memory of
Lillie Juanita "Nita" Fouhse
Lillie Juanita "Nita" Fouhse Ventura, CA Nita Fouhse, aged 93, died peacefully on October 6, 2016, at St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital, after a brief illness. Nita was born on April 22, 1923, in Dennison, Ohio, the daughter of Carl D. Jones and Laura I. Jones (nee Wolford). Nita enjoyed life to the fullest. World travel was a big part of her life, beginning with a trip to Europe in 1963, when foreign travel was still a challenge. She usually created her own itinerary, and frequently traveled solo, visiting over 30 countries. She was active in community theater in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties for over 35 years, and also enjoyed being an "extra" for films and TV in the 1990s. Nita was an avid animal lover and lifelong supporter of the Humane Society of Ventura County, and took great pride in her beautiful garden on Valmore Avenue, where she lived for over 60 years. Nita moved to Ventura in 1945, and her commitment to her adopted community included joining Channel Islands Chapter #78 of the Order of Eastern Star in 1950, where she was a 50 year member, and Daughters of the American Revolution Mitz- Khan-A-Khan chapter in 1989. During the 1950s and 60s, she won many ribbons at the Ventura County Fair for baked goods, jams, jellies, and other treats. Many of her friends and family were happy recipients of her legendary cookies. During WW II, Nita worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at the RCA war plant in Harrison, NJ, making radio tubes. After moving to Ventura, she worked for the Post Office from 1960 to 1971. She then transferred her skills to the Ventura College Bookstore from 1972 to 1987, from where she retired. In 1947, Nita married Cliff Fouhse (1923-1989). Nita and Cliff met while Nita was a car hop at a Ventura restaurant. They had two daughters, Sally and Lisa. Nita's one sibling, Donald, was a Marine and died in an accident on Guam in 1946. In 2006, Nita, Sally and Lisa traveled to Guam to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Don's death. Nita is survived by her daughters, Sally Fouhse and her husband Dan Kronstadt of Santa Barbara, Lisa Luberoff and her husband Paul Luberoff of Camarillo; granddaughters, Agatha Jamison of Austin Texas, Natalie Miller of New York City, and Rebecca Miller of Culver City; and by her great-grandson Jaxon, son of Agatha and her husband, Mike Jamison. A celebration of Nita's life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the San Buenaventura Masonic Center, 482 E. Santa Clara Street, Ventura, from 2:00 to 5:00. All are welcome to honor Nita with their presence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in her name to the Humane Society of Ventura County, 402 Bryant St., Ojai, CA 93023.
