BLOUNT LILLIAN HALPERN 92, a resident of Greenspring Retirement Village in Spring-field VA, since 2003, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2017, after a short illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Col. LeVerne Edwin (Ed) Blount (Ret.) with whom she traveled the world and spent many happy years in Pinehurst NC. She is survived by her 5 children, David Franzel (Kyrre Culver), Bruce Franzel (Barbara), Kathy Franzel-Gauci (Louis Gauci), Robin Franzel (Jeanette), Jonathan Franzel (Coleen), and daughter-in-law Cecilia Franzel; her 10 grand-children, Joseph Guthrie (Samantha Andrews), Johanna Franzel (Jon Courtney), Joshua Franzel (Ashley), Sarah Franzel, Melina Dale (Jonathan), Lauren Franzel-Sassanpour (Maziar), Julia Franzel (Jason Ward), Christine Markwalter (Daniel), Katherine Franzel, and Marin Franzel; and 6 great-grand-children, Jackson Franzel, Julian Sassanpour, Nora Courtney, Alexandra Franzel, Freya Dale and Nicolas Sassanpour. She was born in the Bronx NY and is also survived by sisters Ruth "Tootsie" Gropper, and Judith Davis (Douglas). Lillian proudly served in the United States Naval Reserve (WAVES) during World War II. Her great-est joy was to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will greatly miss her presence. She loved reading, doing crossword puzzles and politics and would be happy to know that at the end of her life, the United States was still under the care and guidance of President Obama. A private Burial will be held at West Point Cemetery, West Point NY. Donations in Lillian's memory may be made to the Greenspring Staff Appreciation Fund, Philanthropy Dept., 7410 Spring Village Dr., Springfield VA 22150, or to a charity of your choice.
