Lilbern Gene Roby Evansville, Ind. Lilbern Gene Roby, 90, of Evansville, passed away, October 12, 2016. He was born July 26, 1926, in Posey County, Ind., the son of the late Zuel and Fannie May (Kern) Roby. Gene served in the 75th U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He worked for Whirlpool Corp. for 40 years, retiring in 1960. Gene was a 50 year member of the Reed #316 Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Hadi Shrine, where he served as president of the Motor Corp in 1975, Jesters, 34 Club, Hillbillies, Kentucky Colonels, Scottish Rite, Owls, Elks, Riverbend and the American Legion Post of Newburgh, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Ann (Render) in 1987; his second wife, Katherine "Genny" (Nix) in 2008; his brothers, Ralph and Donnie; and sister, Nina Green. He is survived by a sister, Betty Dillingham; several nieces and nephews; two stepdaughters, Deborah (Richard) Hilgeman, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., Donna (Doug) Keil, of Cincinnati, Ohio; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; and girl friend and caregiver, Mary Jane Altmeyer. A special thank you to Mary Jane for her loving care and companionship, friendship and laughter with Gene. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Karl Sash, Heart to Heart Hospice and Keidra for their care of Gene. Gene enjoyed fishing, playing cards and he rode his motorcycle until age 82. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Sunset Funeral Home. The Shrine Walk Thru will be at 6:45 p.m. with the Masonic service at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral services for Gene will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children and or the American Cancer Society.
