Lewis F. Merwine
Lewis F. Merwine, 78, of Barry Township, Ashland, passed away Oct. 5 at his residence. Born in Barry Township, he was a son of the late Earl and Ida Yoder Merwine. He was a graduate of Tri-Valley High School, Class of 1956. Following high school, he served in the Army as a grenade and carbine expert. He was employed in area coal mines, most recently for Keystone Anthracite Mining of Girardville, as a driller until his retirement. He was a member of Church of Christ in Christian Union, Barry Township. Preceding him in death was a grandson, Shawn Speer; brothers, Palmer, Allen, Arthur and Walter Merwine. He is survived by his wife, Sandra L. Speer Merwine; a son, Craig A. Merwine, Barry Township; daughters, Gail D. Neumeister, Duncott, and Renee Daniels, Pottsville; a sister, Fern Troup, Barry Township; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Church of Christ in Christian Union, 652 Deep Creek Road, Barry Township, Ashland. Visitation with the family will begin at noon. Officiating will be the Rev. Raymond Clymer. Military interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
