LeVerne R. Meyerhofer
The Mass of Christian Burial for LeVerne R. Meyerhofer, 86, of Stewartville, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Meyerhofer died on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center, where he had been a resident since 2012. LeVerne Ruben Meyerhofer was born on March 13, 1930, on the family farm in rural Stacyville, Iowa, to John and Ida (Kramer). He grew up on the family farm, attended parochial schools in Stacyville and then began helping on the family farm. LeVerne was married on April 15, 1952, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin to Mary M. VanHooser. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed on the Meyerhofer family farm in rural Stacyville. They moved to rural Austin and then to Pleasant Valley Township, rural Racine, in 1959, where they raised their family and farmed for many years. LeVerne was a lifelong farmer until retiring in 2008. Mary was a farm wife and homemaker. Mrs. Meyerhofer died on July 19, 2009. LeVerne was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and member of the Men's Club, Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Foresters. He enjoyed spending winters with his wife, Mary, in Mesa, Ariz. He also enjoyed dancing (he met Mary at a dance at the Terp Ballroom in Austin), playing cards, and was an excellent softball player from his youth into his adult years. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. LeVerne is survived by one daughter and four sons, Richard (Becky) Meyerhofer, of Zumbrota, Pam Winkels, of Hammond, Minn., Kenny (Cindy) Meyerhofer, of rural Stewartville, Gary (Wendy) Meyerhofer and Brian (Tammy) Meyerhofer, both of rural Racine; daughter-in-law, Dawn Meyerhofer, of Mount Arie, N.C.; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Martha Beland, of Stacyville, Minn., and twin siblings, Sr. Nona Meyerhofer and Sr. Nila Meyerhofer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his son, Robert; his parents; three sisters; and four brothers. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville or one hour prior to the funeral Friday at the church.
